Dream alittle dream for Brutus

Portia and Brutus lie, snoozing in their bed. Portia lies softly on her side of the bed, not facing her husband, she is quiet except for the occasional hiccup. Unlike Portia, Brutus snores loudly, but luckily for his wife, he faces away from her. It is a typical night, they are both very tired from their day, but Portia has no idea what Brutus has been asked to do and the big decision he has to make.

“Ahhhhh!”

Portia wakes up to Brutus, hovered over with his sweaty head in his hands. She can't see the terrified look he stares at his hands, but she knows something is not right.

“What is it honey? What's wrong?” Portia asks, trying to stay calm.

“ Nothing, A bad dream thats all.” Brutus replys, but Portia knows her husband too well, and knows he is not telling the truth.

“That was not just a bad dream, what is going on?” She trys again.

“Okay, yes, please forgive me, I don't mean to lie. I just don't want to get you involved in this.” Brutus explains.

“I don't need to hear what is going on, but it might help if you tell me your dream?” Portia asks and waits for Brutus to begin.

“Alright,” Brutus begins. “In the dream, I was walking through the streets of Rome. It was a fine day, not a cloud in the sky, and not too windy. All of the sudden I had this urge to go to the Capitol, it was like a magnet pulling me. When I finally got there, it started to pour rain. I looked up at the sky because I was sure it was a beautiful day a second ago, but sure enough there were dark clouds covering the sky and the wind was blowing fiercely through the trees. I ran inside the Capitol to stay dry. When I got inside, I heard moaning and crying. I ran to chase the noise and as I ran the walls started to slowly grew smaller. I finally reached were the noise was coming from. Right at my feet, Caesar lay on his side. I bent over to take a better look at him and I saw blood rushing from him. I turned him around, so I faced his back, there was a fresh slit with blood pouring out. I stood up to call for help and I noticed a stake in my hand. I lifted the stake to my face to take a closer look; blood was smeared over it and was dripping of the tip, but the part that was not covered in blood was my own reflection. It was my face, but as I stared at it hard my reflection started to laugh. I dropped the stake and started to run, and as I did the laughing grew louder and louder, and the walls grew smaller and smaller.”

Brutus looks up at his wife, because she has not said something for some time, but she just stares back at Brutus, looking terrified.

Diary of a Commoner

Dear Diary,

It feels as though I have not written in days, for so much has happened today. During the
Feast of Lupercal, Caesar was offered the crown by Marcus Antony, we all cheered, nervous, but
excited for him to be our king. And so we waited patiently for Caesar's response, but to our
disappointment he pushed it away with the back of his hand and with no thought even put into his choice. This made me a little irritated with him, I couldn't believe he had put no thought into this at all, I still love the man and for this reason I want him to be our King. We had the same feeling as we shouted back in anger.

Then after hardly any time at all, Marcus Antony offered the crown again. And we cheered, for Caesar might have thought about it again, but he did, as he did the first time, and pushed it away with the back of his hand. This time was a bit different though, for he slowly pushed the crown away as to consider the position. I again I felt mad, as did all the commoners, so we shouted back him.

And again the crown was offered thrice by Marcus Antony. We cheered for him again, but we had little hope for his choice. And Caesar pushed the crown away as he did the first two times, but even slower than the last. Everyone shouted at his response, but I stood silent. I felt that Caesar was wanting the power and needing the crown the last time, and I know he will eventually except the crown, and when he does many of us commoners will be great full.

And as all the commoners shouted after the last offering of the crown, Caesar fell to the ground in a fit. Everyone fell silent at that moment. Caesar has what they call “the falling sickness” and although this frightened and worried us about his health and position, we know Caesar will be our king. He was always and is still meant to be our King no matter what.

Someone like you

1.Who is the author? How many books has he or she written? Is there any other biographical information you could give about him or her that is important?

The author of this book is Sarah Dessen, she is 39 years old, both her parents are professors at the University of North Carolina, and they have pushed her into literature all her life. She has written nine books including Someone Like You.

2.What is your book about? Describe the basic plot of the book in 100 - 150 words. This should be your own description, though, and not come from the back of the book or from an online source!

This book is about a girl, named Halley, who has always followed along side her best friend. But when her best friend, Scarlett, learns that her boyfriend has been killed in a tradgic accident, and that she is carrying his baby, for the first time Scarlett needs Halley. School has started again, Scarlett is taking it slow and being not as social, still devastated from her boyfriend's death, while Halley is growing more independent. She gets into a lot of trouble when she falls for a bad boy, named Macon, and her and her mother cannot seem to communicate like they used too.

3.What is the setting of the book? Remember to explain in detail all three elements of the setting: time, place & atmosphere.

The book takes place in small neighborhood called Lakeview. For the kids, summer has just ended and school is starting again. So far the atmosphere seems depressing, but also fearful. It is sad and depressing after Scarlett's summer boyfriend is killed and also when she finds out she is having and going to keep his baby. Then as Halley becomes involved with Macon, you fear for she might to for him and how she will regret her actions.

4.Pick a main character -preferably the protagonist – from the novel. Describe that character by choosing two personality traits that the character exhibits. Each trait you chose should be fully supported with examples and explanations to prove how that character demonstrates these traits.

The main character is Halley, she is shy, quiet, and antisocial at the beginning of the book. Having and only needing Scarlett as her one and only friend, she feels no need to branch out and meet new people. Then, when she starts to hang out with Macon, the bad boy, she feels the need to step out of her bubble and become adventurous and social.

5.Give a basic review of how much you are enjoying the book so far. Is it enjoyable? Is it any good? What do you like/dislike about it?

I am enjoying the book so far, I think many teens could relate to this story, not me in particular, but most teens. The story deals with; love relationships, the relationship with your best friend, and struggling with your parents.
