Someone like you

1.Who is the author? How many books has he or she written? Is there any other biographical information you could give about him or her that is important?

The author of this book is Sarah Dessen, she is 39 years old, both her parents are professors at the University of North Carolina, and they have pushed her into literature all her life. She has written nine books including Someone Like You.

2.What is your book about? Describe the basic plot of the book in 100 - 150 words. This should be your own description, though, and not come from the back of the book or from an online source!

This book is about a girl, named Halley, who has always followed along side her best friend. But when her best friend, Scarlett, learns that her boyfriend has been killed in a tradgic accident, and that she is carrying his baby, for the first time Scarlett needs Halley. School has started again, Scarlett is taking it slow and being not as social, still devastated from her boyfriend's death, while Halley is growing more independent. She gets into a lot of trouble when she falls for a bad boy, named Macon, and her and her mother cannot seem to communicate like they used too.

3.What is the setting of the book? Remember to explain in detail all three elements of the setting: time, place & atmosphere.

The book takes place in small neighborhood called Lakeview. For the kids, summer has just ended and school is starting again. So far the atmosphere seems depressing, but also fearful. It is sad and depressing after Scarlett's summer boyfriend is killed and also when she finds out she is having and going to keep his baby. Then as Halley becomes involved with Macon, you fear for she might to for him and how she will regret her actions.

4.Pick a main character -preferably the protagonist – from the novel. Describe that character by choosing two personality traits that the character exhibits. Each trait you chose should be fully supported with examples and explanations to prove how that character demonstrates these traits.

The main character is Halley, she is shy, quiet, and antisocial at the beginning of the book. Having and only needing Scarlett as her one and only friend, she feels no need to branch out and meet new people. Then, when she starts to hang out with Macon, the bad boy, she feels the need to step out of her bubble and become adventurous and social.

5.Give a basic review of how much you are enjoying the book so far. Is it enjoyable? Is it any good? What do you like/dislike about it?

I am enjoying the book so far, I think many teens could relate to this story, not me in particular, but most teens. The story deals with; love relationships, the relationship with your best friend, and struggling with your parents.
